Uploads, trackers and accounts. Your queries never leave this Mac

From internal benchmarking on an Intel MacBook Pro 2018; how it feels on your Mac depends on your hardware and how many files you index. Building the first full-disk index takes time — how long depends on your drive and file count — but your everyday folders are searchable while the scan is still running. One job, done properly

Finding a file by name, perfected

Spotlight is built for broad information retrieval. Locseek deliberately narrows the scope and paves one road all the way.

01 / Instant

Results appear as you type

No submit button and no loading animation. Every keystroke narrows the list, and your everyday folders are already searchable while the first scan is still running.

02 / Accurate

Results that stay true to disk

Creates, renames and deletes flow into the index live. Exact > prefix > word-start > contains — ranking you can predict. Change a setting and the search in front of you updates immediately: no rescan, no index rewrite. That number in the status bar is always the count of items you can actually search.

03 / Every disk

From three folders to any location

The free tier covers Desktop, Documents and Downloads — one, two or all three, each authorized separately with its own status. Pro brings the entire startup disk, any folder, external drives, USB sticks, NAS and network shares into the same instant index.

04 / Local

Every computation happens on this Mac

The index holds names, paths, sizes and timestamps. No cloud, no sync — your file list never leaves your device.

05 / Quiet

Not interrupting you is part of the job

It never reads file contents, never goes online, needs no account. Idle CPU is close to zero, and index consolidation waits until you are idle instead of competing with your foreground work. One calm icon in the menu bar.

06 / Still improving

Every release gets faster

Benchmarks are re-run per release and the changelog is public. The Locseek that already feels fast today will be faster next version.

Privacy is not a setting

Your files stay on your Mac

Locseek is designed so that it does not need a cloud: no account, no telemetry, no advertising SDKs. Its index holds only names, paths, sizes and timestamps — never file contents.

Never reads file contents

The index records names, paths, sizes, and modification and creation times. What is written inside your files is something Locseek does not know and does not want to know.

Never goes online

Indexing and searching make no network requests at all. Your queries and your file list never leave this device.

Only the places you grant

Installed from the App Store, it can reach only the folders you explicitly grant through the system picker. Outside that scope it cannot touch a single byte.

Dividing the work with Spotlight

Spotlight for broad search, Locseek for names

We label our own boundaries honestly — because doing one thing well is worth more than dabbling in everything.
